Congratulations Jennifer Poirier
2021 Rising Star Winner!

We are pleased to announce that another NSIWA member has been named CAIW’s Rising Star! Jennifer Poirier, BBA, FCIP of Intact Insurance takes home the 3rd Annual award, making NSIWA a 2-time winner for this so very amazing honour. Jennifer began her career in insurance in May of 2012, though some may say she was born in the industry and following her dad’s and sister’s footsteps. Jennifer joined Intact Insurance in 2012 in Personal Lines as a summer student and returned full time after graduating from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Jennifer has transitioned in various roles since 2012, from Personal Lines to Claims and, most recently, the Commercial Lines Department. Jennifer’s roles varied from an underwriter, adjuster, member of the Special Investigations Unit and have been on the Management team since 2018. Jennifer has recently completed her FCIP designation. In her personal time, she volunteers with Shelter Movers Nova Scotia, a non-profit organization supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

We are very proud to have amazing members like Jennifer in our association!!

2018 CAIW President
Deb MacDougall

Deb is currently a Major Case Specialist in Claim with Travelers Canada – located in the Dartmouth, Nova Scotiaoffice. She began her career at Zurich Insurance in the Claims Department, where she worked for 25 years before joining The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company – now Travelers Canada. She has been with Travelers Canada for 20 years holding various Claim positions.
Deb has been a member of the Nova Scotia Insurance Women’s Association since 1987. Once she attended her first meeting, she was hooked. The lure of being part of such a vibrant, professional organization beckoned her to become involved. She became the NSIWA Director on the CAIW Executive Board in 2015. Although an Officer of CAIW, Deb is still fully involved in NSIWA assisting on several committees. Deb is very excited to represent CAIW as President during this 2017-2018 term and looks forward to working with the dynamic members of the CAIW Executive Board.
CAIW has allowed Deb to forge many friendships across Canada through attending the national conventions and Annual General Meetings. The networking, camaraderie and professionalism is amazing. Through the education provided, she feels she has grown in both knowledge and confidence. In 2011 she was bestowed the Insurance Woman of the Year award after being nominated by her local association. Deb attests it was a humbling experience and an honor to join the past recipients of this award.
Belief in CAIW as a cohesive partnership for the good of all members, Deb encourages input from all local Associations and members to promote CAIW as a viable, diverse organization – where there is something for everybody.
Deb is the mother of two adult children and 4 grandchildren. Her mother lives with her and the children live close by, forming a close-knit family. Her pastimes are reading, listening to all genres of music and travelling.
